This behaviour is characterised by the clarity of your goals and tasks, the plan-based regulation of your activity and behaviours, and your targeted concentration towards achieving the goal.

Purposefulness is the driving force behind the entire mental toughness model of behaviours.  The more you have a clear understanding of yourself, your reasons for what you do and the goals you are trying to achieve, the more able you will be to persevere through hardship, achieve what you want and feel more fulfilled.

We do a lot of work on Purposefulness a the beginning of the programme, with activities around understanding your strengths, discovering what you really enjoy in life, creating meaningful goals and writing your ‘Why’ statements.

By developing your Purposefulness you are able to:

  • Feel better connected to your job and find more satisfaction in what you do
  • Better understand where you are right now and where you want to get to
  • Overcome adversity and hardship by being able to see past obstacles towards the ‘greater picture’
  • Get a better sense of how you connect with the people around you
